Water rates are going up in Cortez, starting in January. The Dolores and Mancos Public Libraries are seeking storytellers for their winter programs. Staying healthy during the holidays can be a challenge. Here are 10 tips for staying well this winter. You're watching "The Local News Roundup," brought to you by Big O Tires and the LOR Foundation. I'm Connor Shreve. Starting January 1st, Cortez residents will experience an increased rate in their monthly water bills. Due to construction costs, infrastructure needs, and changes in regulatory policies, a block rate structure will be implemented with a fixed monthly base fee and volume charge based on water usage. This means that if you use more water, your volume charge will be higher, and if you use a low amount of water, your price increase will be minimal. Average users can expect a monthly increase of 4 to $6. Visit the Cortez website for more details. Do you have a story to tell? The Dolores Public Library is seeking speakers and storytellers for their 2024 Winter Tales lecture series happening January through March. At the Mancos Public Library, people of all ages and experience levels are invited to explore the art of story writing, and it's Everyone Has a Story community writing projects. The next meetings are happening on January 11th and 25th. With busy schedules traveling and Christmas cookies galore, staying well during the holiday season can prove to be a challenge. Here are 10 tips from the Mayo Clinic Health System and the CDC on how to stay healthy this winter. Make sure to drink water. The Mayo Clinic recommends drinking eight glasses per day, get enough sleep and reduce stress. Dress appropriately for the weather and limit time spent in freezing temperatures. Exercise and be active for at least 2 1/2 hours per week for adults and one hour per day for children and teens to improve both physical and mental health. Support your body by eating healthy whole foods like fruits and vegetables and limiting sugar. Keep germs and viruses at bay by washing your hands with soap often and for a minimum of 20 seconds. Since viruses spread more easily indoors, you can reduce exposure by opening windows or using an air purifier while inside. Lastly, if you're sick, stay home and avoid close contact with others to prevent the sickness from spreading. If you are in need of some last minute Christmas gifts or want to visit one last art fair for the holiday season, head over to the Cortez Cultural Center for its Winter Wonders Small Works holiday art fair. The fair will be closing December 30th. Learn more about these and other stories online at montezumlocal.news. Thank you for watching this edition of "The Local News Roundup." I'm Connor Shreve.
