The City of Cortez has a new logo for its 140th anniversary. Celebrate the 4th of July with fireworks, food, and fun at Parke. DaVita, and the Mesa Verde Writers Conference and Literary Festival brings authors and literary enthusiasts to Mancuss. You're watching the local news Roundup, brought to you by Big O Tires and Blondies Trophy room. I'm Connor Shrieve. The City of Cortez announced the winners of its 140 logo design competition. Nicholas Arbogast won first place. Silas Eckhart took second and Michelle Grove placed third. The winning logo will be used to promote the city's 140th anniversary in 2026. Local businesses and organizations are invited to use the design in their promotional materials. All contest participants will be recognized at the City council meeting at 7:30 PM on Tuesday, July 8th at Cortez City Hall. To see the entries and learn more about Cortez's anniversary visit the City of Cortez website. Cortez's annual 4th of July celebration begins at noon on Friday, July 4th at Parkade. DaVita Celebrations include live music, food, trucks, games, a car show, a beer garden, and fireworks. The fireworks are expected to begin around 9:00 PM The celebration continues Saturday, July 5th with more live music, food, and festivities. Starting at noon Saturday's, event is ticketed with proceeds benefiting. The local nonprofit fundamental needs a program that works across the Navajo Nation and rural Colorado to address gaps in health, education, and employment. General admission is $10 online and $15 in person Road 26 through Centennial Park will be closed during the events. Nearly 50 published authors will be in Mankas for the Mesa Verde Writers Conference and Literary Festival Wednesday, July 9th through Saturday, July 12th. This two part event features a conference for published and aspiring writers and a festival open to all. The literary festival includes a panel author, presentations and youth workshops, and will be held on Friday, July 12th at restaurants and other venues around Mancuss. The literary festival is free to attend and prior registration is encouraged. Tickets to the Writers Conference sold out in April, but you can join the wait list by emailing Mesa Verde writers@gmail.com.
