Cowboy culture will be front and center as Durango hosts the 35th annual Durango Cowboy Gathering. Fall is officially here. Barbecue brews and tunes are part of the Pig Roast fundraiser for Mount Lookout Grange and plan for the changing of the leaves. You're watching "The Local News Roundup", brought to you by Choice Building Supply and the Lore Foundation. I'm Connor Shreve. The 35th annual Durango Cowboy Gathering will take place Thursday, September 28th through Sunday October 1st, at locations around town. Cowboy poets and musicians from across the west gather to celebrate poems and songs that capture the spirit of the American West. Tickets and the event schedule can be found at durangocowboygathering.org. The Dolores Harvest Festival marks the turning of the seasons Saturday, October 7th. Check out the wide variety of locally grown vegetables and take part in the festivities at Flanders Park from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Events include pumpkin painting, hay rides, and a car show, which will cap the evening with a tour down Central Avenue. The annual Pig Roast Fundraiser for Mount Lookout Grange is back for a seventh year. Join the celebration of community this Saturday, September 30th with live music and locally sourced food and drinks. Dolores River Brewery, Minkus Brewing Company, and Fenceline Cider will provide the libations. Little brother will provide the groove. The event runs from 4 to 8 PM, but do keep in mind the meal is only available from 4:30 to 6:30. Tickets are $30 each with a cash bar and kids under 12 eat for free. If you'd like to just enjoy the music and comradery without the food, a discounted ticket of $5 is available. You can get tickets at Eventbrite online or at the door, but there are a limited number of tickets available for dinner. The fall colors are casually creeping closer. If you'd like to catch the red, orange, and yellow hues of turning leaves this fall, the San Juan National Forest has released its fall color report for 2023, and this year the change is coming just a few days later than usual. In fact, peak foliage dates rarely shift by more than a few days. Dolores will be one of the latest regions in Colorado to change in mid-October. Dolores will align closely with Pagosa Springs and Purgatory, but our window is now depending on what elevation you visit. The fall foliage prediction map online is a great tool for planning your viewing excursions. You can learn more about these and other stories online at Montezuma Local dot News.
