Dress it up or down on New Year's Eve at a portrait party at Zoo Gallery. Jump on the winter fat biking trend at a clinic in Delores and a state-mandated plastic bag fee takes effect January 1st. Whether you prefer to dress up for New Year's Eve celebrations or play it a bit more casual, you can celebrate at Zoo Gallery's New Year's Eve Glam or Pajama Jam Portrait Party, December 31st from 3 PM to 7 PM. You can get your portrait taken before you dance the night away or slip into your PJs for an early bedtime and fresh new year morning. A $10 entry fee will get you access to a local professional photographer, festive backdrops will be provided for any couples, individuals, or even pets who want a portrait. A digital image, as well as a 5x7 print is included with entry. Register through the link on Zoo Gallery's Facebook page. A clinic on fat tire snow biking is being held at the Dolores Public Library Tuesday, January 3rd at 5:30. Fat biking, mountain bikes built for and outfitted with super high volume fat tires, is the sport's most recent trend, gaining notoriety for making it easier and more fun to bike through snow. Starting January 1st, most retail stores across the state will start charging a ten-cent bag fee for disposable bags. That's the result of a Colorado House bill intended to reduce reliance on disposable bags. Customers who show they're on federal or state food assistance programs will not have to pay the fee. And beginning in 2024, any affected store in Montezuma County will give 60% of those bag revenues to the county and be allowed to keep 40%. San Juan SOLES Program Opens Applications for 2024-2025

Applications for the 2024-2025 San Juan Mountain Sisters on Leadership Expeditions program, or “SOLES” program, are open now through April 1st. The program is designed to help high school-aged girls develop wilderness and leadership skills, self-awareness, and healthy lifestyle choices, as well as connect with peers, mentors, and the environment. Dream of Firefighting? Free Forestry Programs Provide First Step

The Cortez Recreation Center has reduced its hours of operation for the indoor lap pool, leisure pool, and slide due to a lifeguard shortage.
