Professional Certifications Offered Free of Charge

Professional certification courses for cybersecurity and drone operations are tuition-free and available with a grant from La Plata County and Colorado OEDIT. The work of Cortez artist Karen Kristin is on display through September at Saint Barnabas Episcopal Church. The work focuses on the animals and landscape of the southwest. Cybersecurity and drone operations certification classes begin this month. St. Barnabas Episcopal Church is featuring a Cortes based artist, and third Thursday says goodbye for 2023. You're watching "The Local News Roundup", brought to you by Fast Signs and the Lor Foundation. I'm Wendy Graham Settle. Two professional certification classes are being offered free of charge through Pueblo Community College Southwest. The classes begin this month focused on either cybersecurity or drone pilot certification. The cybersecurity certification, Security Plus incorporates best practices in hands-on troubleshooting to prepare the student to be able to monitor, assess, and respond to various cybersecurity risks and incidents. The Commercial Drone Pilots classes are designed with both hands-on flying practice and classroom hours to prepare students For the FAA Commercial Drone Pilots license test. In-person classes will be held in Durango. Seating is limited, so registration is on a first come first serve basis. To register, email jj@yeslpc.com. The tuition free classes are made possible through a grant from La Plata County and Colorado Economic Development Alliance. Local artist Karen Kristen is the featured artist for the month of September at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church. A reception for Kristen featuring her work will be held at the church Friday, September 8th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. The featured art explores landscape and animal symbolism in the southwest. Kristen's paintings and Prince will be on display at the church through September. The Hill Benders will play this season's final third Thursday celebration in Montezuma Park later this month. September 21st marks the season finale of third Thursdays. The outdoor market and Music Fest features vendors, live music, giveaways, food, and more.
