Think you have what it takes to join the force? The Citizens Academy gives you the chance to prove your mettle beginning next week. The Dolores Food Drive is underway and a popular air show returns. You're watching the Local News Roundup, brought to you by Blondie's Trophy Room and Big O Tires. I'm Connor Shreve. If you've ever wondered what it takes to be a Cortez cop, here's your chance. The Cortez Police Department Citizen Academy begins Tuesday September 19th, but spots are limited so register now. The Citizens Academy is comprised of two and a half hour sessions once per week for six weeks. Police officers will teach topics like evidence collection, investigation, and dispatch, among others. Each class ends with a reality-based training scenario where participants can put the principles they've learned into action. The class does offer an opportunity to understand the thought process and decision making that's required of our local police officers. For more information you can visit the Cortez Police Department's Facebook page or to register, go to crimewatch.net. The Dolores Family Project needs food donations to help fill backpacks for the 2023-24 school year. They're taking dried and shelf stable food items from now through October 1st as part of the Dolores Food Drive. Drop off donations at Dolores Outfitters, Dolores River Brewery, Mama Bear's Bakery, and Dolores Family Dollar. Get ready to look to the sky for an aviation spectacle at the Four Corners Fly In. Hundreds are expected to gather for the annual air show at the Cortez Municipal Airport Sunday, September 17th. Plane and helicopter tours will be offered as part of the airport open house as well as aviation displays, food trucks, and a look back on the history of aviation in the Four Corners. Past events have featured aircraft from numerous regional service providers from around the area, including Montrose, Cortez, and Durango. The third annual Four Corners Fly In will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Cortez airport. Learn more about these stories and others at Montezuma Local News.
