Looking to spread some Christmas cheer this season? Pick up a tag for Dolores' Angel Tree Gift Program and give a gift to a local child, senior or community member in need. Holiday festivities continue at the Dolores and Cortez Public Libraries with Santa and sweaters as the main attractions. You're watching the Local News Roundup, brought to you by TruWest Auto and Blondie's Trophy Room. I'm Connor Shreve. Gifts for the Rotary Club of Dolores' Angel Tree Gift Program are due on Tuesday, December 19th. To get a wishlist for a local child, senior, or community member in need, shoppers can fill out a tag request form on the Visit Dolores website or pick one up at the Dolores Public Library. Gifts can be dropped off at the library where Rotary volunteers will be organizing and preparing them for distribution, starting December 20th. The Dolores Public Library invites you to spend an evening with Santa Claus on Friday, December 15th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. The evening includes stories, hot drinks, and Christmas sweets. It's also the last day to drop off letters to Santa for the library's letter exchange. Come back between December 18th and 23rd to receive a special reply from Santa himself. Kara Lang of Belle and the Bear is hosting a macrame workshop at Fenceline Cider in Mancos on Friday, December 15th from 6:00 to 8:30 PM. Participants can choose between making a plant hanger or a market bag. You can register for the event on Belle and the Bear's website. Space is limited and tickets include a cider drink, appetizers, and macrame materials. On Saturday, December 16th, the Cortez Public Library is hosting an Ugly Sweater Christmas Party competition. The library will be providing a photo booth, snacks, hot chocolate, and gift card prizes for the top three winners. You can learn more about these and other stories online at montezumalocal.news. Growing Community, Culture, and Climate-Adapted Crops

Pueblo Seed & Food Co. is a family-run organic farm and seed enterprise rooted in deep stewardship of land, seed, and community. Established in 1996 and now operating on irrigated acreage near Cortez, Colorado, the company grows a wide diversity of certified organic crops—open-pollinated seeds, chile peppers, varietal garlic, vegetables, legumes, and heritage grains—selling them as seeds, fresh produce, and handcrafted foods through their Seed & Bakehouse retail space. Their mission centers on renewing and strengthening community resilience by stewarding healthy seeds and food, guided by regenerative, biodynamic, and conservation farming traditions that honor both plant genetics and human stories. As winter approaches, Pueblo Seed & Food Co. invites its community to celebrate the Winter Solstice Fundraiser on Sunday, December 21, 2025, at their downtown Cortez Bakehouse. This festive gathering not only marks the seasonal turning point with music, hands-on milling and baking, and holiday shopping, but also serves as a kickoff to their exciting new initiative—the Pueblo Seed & Grain Hub, developed in partnership with the Onward! Foundation to expand regional capacity for drought-tolerant grain and legume production. Join in the spirit of the season with whole grain cookies, community, and support for food and seed security in the Southwest. By Paige Sparks.
