Full steam ahead. November 8th is National STEM/STEAM Day. Learn how the Dolores Public Library encourages students in these subjects. Don't miss the annual Montezuma County Veterans Day Parade on Saturday, November 11th. And get involved in National Apprenticeship Week November 13th through the 19th. You are watching the "Local News Roundup," brought to you by Keesee Motor Company and Southwest Health System. I'm Connor Shreve. Founded in 2015 by MGA entertainment, National STEM/STEAM Day hopes to further inspire and motivate children to pursue the subjects of science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics. While the official day is November 8th, the Dolores Public Library encourages these interests regularly with STEAM kits available for children to take home, as well as scheduled events. The library has partnered with Pueblo Community College for a STEM program with hands-on experiments and activities every Wednesday, and with the Pinhead Institute for monthly astronomy events for students. According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, almost all of the top 20 fastest growing jobs are STEM and STEAM-related. Saturday, November 11th, is Veterans Day. The Veterans Day parade will begin at 1:00 on Montezuma Avenue in Cortez for local veterans. The Montezuma County Veterans Services has arranged breakfast and lunch before and after the parade, respectively, and we'll be hosting a dance later that evening. Dolores High School will also be celebrating Veterans Day on Monday, November 13th, in the main gym. The 9th Annual National Apprenticeship Week will be held November 13th through the 19th. This year's theme is "Registered Apprenticeship: Superhighway to Good Jobs," focusing on how apprenticeships pave a way for good jobs, promote equality, and support underserved populations. Virtual and in-person events will be held for career seekers, employers, and educators across the country with specific days themed around women, youth, veterans, and more. To search events, explore resources, and learn how to get involved, visit the National Apprenticeship Week website. Learn more about these and other stories online at montezumalocal.news.
