Cheer on Runners and Celebrate All Things Apple

The Mancos Cowboy Half Marathon and 5k is Saturday, October 14. Proceeds go to the Mancos Public Library where the race will commence at 8 a.m. The Montezuma Orchard Restoration Project invites you to bring friends, family, lawn chairs, and apples to their Orchard Social and Fall Heritage Apple Tree Sale on Saturday, October 14th. The pre-event eclipse viewing will begin at 9 a.m. followed by food, live music, and apple-themed fall festivities from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. This week in Cortez, learn how to save a life with free overdose response training on Saturday, October 14 and free suicide prevention training on Tuesday, October 17. Lace up your running shoes this weekend for the Mancos Cowboy Half Marathon and 5K on Saturday, October 14th. Meanwhile, the Montezuma Orchard Restoration Project is holding an orchard social and fall heritage apple tree sale. Come to watch the eclipse and stay for food, live music, and fall festivities. This weekend in Cortez, you can learn how to save a life with free overdose response and suicide prevention training courses. You're watching the local news roundup, brought to you by Choice Ace Hardware and the Lor Foundation. I'm Connor Shreve. On Saturday, October 14th, runners will be lining up at the Mancos Public Library for the Mancos Cowboy Half Marathon and 5K. It starts at 8:00 and 8:30 a.m. Proceeds and donations from the race will go to the Mancos Public Library and their programs. Runners are invited to come early for some cowboy campfire coffee and snacks from the Chuck Wagon. A kid's race will also be held starting at 9:30 a.m. and other children's activities available in the outdoor classroom. Spectators are encouraged to cheer on the runners from the library parking lot where the start and finish line will be located. The Montezuma Orchard Restoration Project invites you to bring friends, family, lawn chairs, and apples to their orchard social and fall heritage apple tree sale on Saturday, October 14th. The pre-event eclipse viewing will start at 9:00 a.m. followed by a celebration of Orchard Country from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The event will include food, apple cider, live music, orchard tours, cider pressing demonstrations, tree sales, and a homegrown apple show. Show categories include biggest, most attractive, most character, ugliest, and best spitter. This All Things Apple party will be held at the Montezuma Orchard Restoration Projects Orchard Hub in Dolores. Dante Downing of Young People in Recovery is continuing the harm reduction workshops this weekend by offering a free training course on overdose response and Narcan usage. Narcan kits used to reverse opioid overdoses will be distributed to participants at the events. The training will be held at St. Barnabas of the Valley Episcopal Church on Saturday, October 14th at 12:30 p.m. The Cortez Public Library is holding a community QPR training on Tuesday, October 17th from 4:30 to 6:30 presented by the Safe Coalition. QPR, short for Question Persuade Refer, is described as CPR for mental health and is a useful tool in suicide prevention. You can register for the event on the library's website.
