As the weather starts to cool down and so-called cozy season begins, which towns across Colorado are the best to hole up in? According to an online dating platform, Mancos, Colorado is one. An AG welding workshop is offered by Pueblo Community College and come join the fun at the Cortez Fire Protection District Halloween Firehouse. You're watching the "Local News Roundup" brought to you by Keesee Motors and Choice Building Supply Ace Hardware. I'm Wendy Graham Settle. As fall turns into winter, many enjoy the idea of cozying up next to a fireplace or a fireplace-themed TV with a hot mug of a tasty beverage, a blanket and maybe someone special. An online matchmaking platform has compiled a list of towns across the United States it deems perfect for that exact category, and in the state of Colorado, one small southwest town made the list. Mancos, Colorado is ranked 83rd across the United States out of 170. The platform used three key features in its ranking, weather, food and activities. Mancos received six out of 20 possible points for activities, 12 out of 30 possible points for food and 35 out of 50 possible points for winter. To see the breakdown of how points are awarded and see other cozy towns that made the list, visit mydatingadvisor.com/best-small-towns-in-america. Sign up for an AG welding workshop offered at Pueblo Community College's Welding Building this fall. Three workshops are available on Tuesday, October 25th, Tuesday, November 1st, and Tuesday November 8th. Learn basic welding skills for farms and ranches. No previous welding experience is required. Class sizes are limited to 15 students, so make sure to pre-register. Classes are $100 per person and will be from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Contact Heather Houk at 970-564-6230 or heather.houk@pueblocc.edu to email her for more information and to register. Cortez Fire Protection District is hosting a Halloween Firehouse Monday, October 31st from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Games, activities and candy will be available, so bring the whole family down to the Firehouse at 31 North Washington Street. That's it for this week's "Local News Roundup." I'm Wendy Graham Settle.

Growing Community, Culture, and Climate-Adapted Crops

Pueblo Seed & Food Co. is a family-run organic farm and seed enterprise rooted in deep stewardship of land, seed, and community. Established in 1996 and now operating on irrigated acreage near Cortez, Colorado, the company grows a wide diversity of certified organic crops—open-pollinated seeds, chile peppers, varietal garlic, vegetables, legumes, and heritage grains—selling them as seeds, fresh produce, and handcrafted foods through their Seed & Bakehouse retail space. Their mission centers on renewing and strengthening community resilience by stewarding healthy seeds and food, guided by regenerative, biodynamic, and conservation farming traditions that honor both plant genetics and human stories. As winter approaches, Farm Direct Seed & Food Co. invites its community to celebrate the Winter Solstice Fundraiser on Sunday, December 21, 2025, at their downtown Cortez Bakehouse. This festive gathering not only marks the seasonal turning point with music, hands-on milling and baking, and holiday shopping, but also serves as a kickoff to their exciting new initiative—the Pueblo Seed & Grain Hub, developed in partnership with the Onward! Foundation to expand regional capacity for drought-tolerant grain and legume production. Join in the spirit of the season with whole grain cookies, community, and support for food and seed security in the Southwest. By Paige Sparks.
